THANK YOU, REEDSY! ONWARD!
We’re already almost halfway through 2026 and I’m enjoying another busy and
productive year providing freelance editorial work for Reedsy. I never would
have expected this relationship to grow into such a reliable, enjoyable, creative
and rewarding experience, expanding my professional career (since 1973) in
children’s picture books. Indeed, also challenging as I navigate different author
personalities, voices, expectations and interactions.
I work exclusively with picture book authors and illustrators on Reedsy.
Over the past 6-plus years, I have “met” and guided several hundred authors,
many from international locales.
The industry continues to change rapidly. Perhaps the newest and most difficult
shift for me is the rapid intrusion of AI into publishing. I find it “intrusive” because
I believe its application dilutes or skews the integrity and reliability of talent. I applaud Reedsy
its position regarding use of AI by its editors and our clients. Limiting its use helps to
preserve the soul of creative work. Hopefully, most authors are transparent
about any AI support used to develop their ideas, and Reedsy requests this information
prior to any freelance collaboration with a client.
The new Reedsy video call feature required for authors who wish to work with editors directly
by phone works well. It facilitates projects that are more easily discussed in person.
Many of my authors have been successful in self-publishing their books or engaging
an agent to boost exposure to traditional publishers. Several have attracted traditional
publishers and secured contracts, very impressive given the current competitive
market. It’s wonderful when an author chooses to send me a copy in gratitude for
our collaboration.
Reedsy’s services and team support is exceptional and continues to expand. As I’ve
mentioned in previous reviews, their website performs seamlessly. The Reedsy team is
available to help resolve questions or rare glitches that may arise during a collaboration.
Stripe continues to provide accurate reporting for tracking payments and tax information.
Moving forward, I continue to recommend Reedsy as a high quality publishing resource
as its reputation continues to grow. I’m looking forward to the next batch of picture books
that I’ll be privileged to edit during the second half of 2026. Guaranteed, I’ll stay busy!
